Bishoftu International Airport

Construction has officially begun on Bishoftu International Airport, a bold new aviation hub near Bishoftu, Ethiopia that will be the largest airport on the African continent when completed. Designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, the airport’s innovative architecture features a central terminal and fluid forms that prioritize passenger flow and reflect its dramatic Rift Valley setting. Planned to serve tens of millions of travelers annually and equipped with modern amenities, the project aims to strengthen Ethiopia’s connectivity and make travel to and through Africa easier and more efficient. With an anticipated opening in 2030, the new airport underscores a growing vision for the region as a global gateway for international travel.
