Saga
The tower is 70 Pine, finished in 1932 as the headquarters of the Cities Service Company, whose founder Henry Latham Doherty reserved the spire for himself as a private triplex apartment. James Kent opened Saga in that space in 2021, and Modellus Novus, which designed the interiors then, returned for a light renovation before the September 2025 opening, along with a visual identity that looks back to the Financial District of the 1990s. Three terraces open off the dining room.
Six courses go for $215 and ten for $315, Wednesday through Sunday, for parties of one to six, with reservations released on the first of each month for the month after and $100 a guest taken at booking. Ten can sit at the kitchen table in the Solarium, a glass-enclosed room close enough to hear the kitchen at work, where the menu runs longer at $365.
Mitchell arrived by way of Eleven Madison Park and the twenty-six seats of Clover Hill in Brooklyn Heights, and the James Beard Foundation named him best chef in New York State in 2024. What he cooks at Saga is French in technique and built on seafood and vegetables at their peak, with his Detroit childhood, his grandmother's Southern cooking and a long attention to Japanese seafood underneath it. Cornbread arrives under oscietra gold caviar, madai under a sheath of potato. One menu closed on Moroccan tea and a maamoul cookie.
