Housed in a 150-year-old Romanesque Revival and neo-Flemish building, Maxwell Social was designed to feel less like a club and more like a second home, where members cook in the kitchen, share late dinners, and build the kind of friendships that are hard to come by after college. Every new member begins as part of a curated cohort, moving through three months of events and rituals to learn the rhythm of the house, a process that feels more like being welcomed into a family than vetted for a velvet rope. The interiors live up to that ambition, with hand-painted Gracie wallpaper murals, limestone fireplaces, custom chandeliers, and chef-ready kitchens outfitted with Ruffoni copper pots, leathered marble countertops, and JennAir appliances, spread across distinct rooms including the grand Grand Room, the sun-drenched Garden Room, and the adventure-themed Explorers Room with its two-tiered library and hot air balloon bar. The weekly rituals give the place its heartbeat: Fridays begin with a private chef cooking breakfast for members at 9 AM and wind into an open bar happy hour from 5 to 8 PM, the kind of cadence that turns a membership into a lifestyle. The house is open to members Monday through Thursday from 6 to 11 PM, Fridays and Saturdays from 9 AM to 1 AM, and Sundays from 9 AM to 6 PM, with membership rooted less in status and more in spirit, drawing a community of curious, creative, and outgoing New Yorkers who are genuinely looking to show up for each other.
