Ramen by Ra is the East Village ramen counter from New York City based chef Rasheeda Purdie. Tthe concept became the first Black woman owned ramen shop in America and introduced New York to asa ra, a breakfast style ramen rooted in early 20th century Japanese tradition. In 2025, Purdie opened the new home of Ramen by Ra, preserving the intimacy of her original four seat Bowery Market counter while expanding the ritual around shoyu based broths, soy eggs, and breakfast bao. Blending Japanese technique with Southern memory and New York rhythm, each bowl reflects patience, care, and a soulful approach to comfort food.
