Private Teabowl Demonstration & Storytelling
Join Korean ceramic artist Jeon Sang Geun for a special demonstration exploring the rich history, form, and philosophy of the tea bowl. Through storytelling and live wheel demonstrations, Jeon will share how tea culture across different countries has shaped the design and making of tea bowls.
During this session, Jeon will discuss how various tea traditions, ceremonies, and tea types influence the way tea bowls are formed, used, and appreciated. Drawing from traditions across countries such as Korea, Japan, and China, he will highlight the unique characteristics that define each culture’s approach to teabowls.
The demonstration will include live wheel work, where Jeon will show how he trims and refines tea bowls, sharing techniques for shaping, balance, and finishing that bring out the character of the form. Along the way, he will discuss the subtle details that make tea bowls both functional and expressive.
This is a private demonstration and a storytelling-based lecture and the studio will be closed for the night for the event.
