Amanolu: Aman's First Maldives Resort Gives Every Residence Its Own Island
Aman is coming to the Maldives. Its first resort in the archipelago will be called Amanolu, and it is scheduled to open in 2028 in Vaavu Atoll with a 52-key resort, separate islands for wellness and recreation, and 16 Aman Residences that each sit on an island of their own.
The name joins Aman, the Sanskrit word for peace, with Olu, inspired by the water lily. The flower grows throughout the Indian Ocean region and has long been a symbol of serenity and renewal.
Vaavu Atoll
Vaavu is the least populated of the Maldives' administrative atolls. It takes in Felidhu Atoll and Vattaru Reef, about 64 kilometres from Malé.

The architecture is by KHA, Kerry Hill Architects, whose work for Aman goes back to Amanusa in Bali, which opened in 1992, and includes Amanwella in Sri Lanka, Aman Tokyo, Amanemu and Aman Kyoto. For Amanolu, the studio took its cues from the atoll's white coralline beaches and turquoise lagoons. The design is simple and restrained, and architecture and landscape run together so that the line between indoors and out all but disappears.
An island for every residence
Each of the 16 Aman Residences is a five-bedroom home on its own private island. Some islands face a single shoreline and are oriented toward either sunrise or sunset. Others run coast to coast, with a beach on each side and the sun in view from dawn to dusk.
Indoor and outdoor living spaces open straight onto the beach. Every island has a 25-metre (82-foot) swimming pool, a personal berth and its own staff accommodation, and owners have access to the resort's dining, wellness and recreation, including the wellness and activity islands.
Wellness and the water
One island is given over entirely to wellness, with an Aman Spa and the brand's signature Spa Houses. A second island is set aside for recreation, with diving, snorkelling, watersports and marine exploration. Across the resort there will be several dining venues, including Aman's global culinary concepts, along with family facilities and spaces for gathering.
What is known so far
