Conceived by Kengo Kuma and Associates, the design centers on The Ripple, an undulating canopy that carries the motion of the sea inland, creating shade and shimmer across a fluid sequence of plazas, verandas, and promenades. A blend of natural materials softens the Mediterranean sun while preserving a luminous connection to sky and water, the result an almost continuous realm between inside and out, where the climate itself becomes part of the program. The project emphasizes natural materials, environmental comfort, and a fluid connection between built form and coastline, positioning it as a new benchmark for Mediterranean retail design.
A new centerpiece for Europe’s leading regeneration
Riviera Galleria occupies a prime waterfront position within The Ellinikon, the transformation of Athens's former international airport by LAMDA Development that ranks among Europe's largest urban regenerations. Conceived as Greece's first all-year-round premium shopping and lifestyle destination, it will be a centerpiece of the district's retail offering as The Ellinikon becomes one of Europe's largest commercial hubs.
The destination will welcome more than 100 outlets, a curated blend of international luxury houses, emerging designers, and premium Greek brands, alongside a strong culinary component, across approximately 19,000 square meters of leasable space. Set just minutes from central Athens, it feels a world away in atmosphere. LAMDA Development reports that Heads of Terms have been signed with tenants representing approximately 77 percent of the gross leasable area, a strong indicator of confidence from the leading houses and Greek brands that see The Ellinikon as a next generation address. Construction is advancing across the complex, with major architectural elements including the signature canopy progressing through 2026, and Riviera Galleria is targeted to open this year.

Spanning approximately 287,000 square meters, the Sports Park brings together football, tennis, and basketball facilities, a track and field arena, generous green space, and flexible areas for recreation and events. Designed as an open, accessible hub, it is intended to serve top athletes, families, and everyday Athenians alike, rethinking sport and wellness as shared civic infrastructure within a 15-minute city.
