Adrian Zecha, the legendary hotelier behind Aman Resorts, is about to do it again. Opening in spring 2026, AZUMA FARM Koiwai is a joint venture between Zecha's hospitality group and JR East, set on the grounds of Koiwai Farm in Iwate Prefecture, Japan, a historic working farm cultivated for over 130 years at the foot of Mount Iwate. Guests stay in one of just 24 secluded villa rooms scattered across an 8-hectare grove, each built from local red pine and cypress and tucked quietly into the surrounding forest. The experience centers on what the property calls true "Farm Life": connecting with the land, the seasons, and the deep natural and cultural traditions of Japan's northeast.
