Grand Concourse Library
The Grand Concourse Library in the Bronx is poised for a dramatic transformation into The Heartwood, a visionary project that will replace the current 1959 branch with a modern, state-of-the-art public library serving local families, students, and lifelong learners. The new library space will span about 17,500 square feet and feature bright, open reading rooms, updated technology, and dedicated areas for children, teens, and community events, enhancing its role as a cultural and educational hub in the neighborhood. Designed to preserve beloved elements like the historic Lorrie Goulet sculpture, the library will sit at the base of a mixed-use building that includes 113 affordable, rent-stabilized homes above, bringing new energy to this vital community anchor. As part of the Living Libraries initiative, The Heartwood aims to set a new standard for how libraries can serve as vibrant centers of knowledge and connection.
