Los Angeles County Museum of Art
One of the most anticipated cultural openings in Los Angeles history, the David Geffen Galleries at LACMA opens on April 19, 2026, concluding a two-decade transformation of one of America's great art museums. Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Peter Zumthor, the 347,500-square-foot building straddles Wilshire Boulevard and hovers nearly 30 feet above plaza level, supported by seven pavilions and filled with 110,000 square feet of gallery space housing up to 3,000 objects from the museum's permanent collection. Rather than organizing art by medium or period, the inaugural installation uses the Pacific, Indian, and Atlantic Oceans and the Mediterranean Sea as its framework, tracing cultural exchange and migration across the entirety of art history. Outside, 3.5 acres of new public space will be activated with commissioned outdoor sculptures and monumental works, making the campus as much a destination to wander as it is to visit.
