Mezzrow

Greenwich Village·4.6 (1.3k)·$30–50

Photography by Mezzrow

Named after legendary clarinetist Mezz Mezzrow and nestled beneath a cookbook store on a quiet West 10th Street stretch, this sophisticated 30-seat listening room honors the extinct tradition of New York's classic jazz piano bars. Founded by pianist Spike Wilner and Mitch Borden—the visionary duo behind Smalls Jazz Club—Mezzrow cultivates a refined yet relaxed atmosphere where exposed brick walls, marble floors, and the atmospheric tremor of the A Train create an authentically underground New York experience. The jewel-box venue features an elegant Steinway and showcases intimate configurations of piano-and-bass duos, with performances by luminaries like Brad Mehldau and Kurt Elling that are live-streamed and archived for posterity. This is Greenwich Village jazz as it was meant to be experienced: up close, unhurried, and utterly transporting.
