Penn Station, the busiest transit hub in the Western Hemisphere, is finally on track for the transformation New Yorkers have waited decades for. Amtrak and federal officials have selected Penn Transformation Partners, a team led by Halmar and Skanska, as the master developer to lead the overhaul, which will bring a grand new entrance on Eighth Avenue, new concourses, raised ceilings, and expanded track capacity. The design takes inspiration from the original 1910 Penn Station, a beloved architectural masterpiece of high ceilings and marble columns that was demolished in the 1960s, while keeping Madison Square Garden in place. Backed by an $8 billion federal commitment, the project is expected to break ground before the end of 2027, promising to finally give one of the world's most heavily trafficked stations the sense of arrival it has long deserved.
