Warren Street Hotel
Stonehill Taylor, the firm behind Firmdale's Crosby Street and Whitby, raised it from an open-air parking lot between Greenwich and West Broadway, and gave it a blue glass front capped in yellow that does nothing to blend in with the restored redbrick warehouses along the block. Floor-to-ceiling windows run double paned, so the skyline arrives without the noise.
No two of the 69 rooms, suites and residences are alike. Kemp worked on them with her daughters Minnie and Willow in a neighborhood that ran on textiles in the nineteenth century, which is what her own collections with Christopher Farr Cloth and GP&J Baker are doing through the building. Two Songbird suites open onto terraces planted by Brook Landscape, and eleven residences at the top take stays past thirty days. The junior terrace suites have their walls lined in fabric.
The lobby runs bold yellow, with Tony Cragg's carved black marble near reception and Never Grow Old, a bronze seat Wendell Castle finished in 2014. Three of Cristian Mohaded's woven towers hang overhead.
Fitness sits five minutes away at the Nexus Club, on a code issued at check in. Downstairs, the drawing room belongs to guests alone, with a library, backgammon and chess, and a bookcase Tess Newall painted by hand. The fireplace works.
